Students will be learning about the notes on the piano keyboard.  Review the musical alphabet and fill in the keyboard page for the theory lesson for today.

Students will read 1 and 2 at the top of the page and will study the charts of note values and parts of the note.

Exercise 2.1--Review Questions--p. 8
Students will answer questions 1 through 12 using what they learned from their reading.

Students will complete the musical alphabet patterns for 10 of the problems.

Students will answer the 17 questions related to Unit 1.  Use pages 3 and 5 for help.

THIS IS THE FIRST ASSIGNMENT OF THE 2010-2011 SCHOOL YEAR.

Lesson 1:  The Staff and Notes--p.3
Students will read 1 through 4; paying attention to the examples.

Exercise 1.1:  Line and Space Identification--p.3
Students will identify the line or space number on which the notes are placed.  Students will complete 3 through 12.

Exercise 1.2:  Pitch Relationships--p
. 4
Students will determine whether the second note in each measure is higher, lower, or the same as the first note in each measure.  Students will complete 4 through 13.

Exercise 1.3:  Pitch Relationships--p. 4
Three notes are given in each problem.  Students will rewrite the notes from lowest to highest in the blank measures.  Students will complete 2, 3, and 4.
